Megan Sawtelle
Founder & CEO, AK Lean Virtual Assistance
Megan Sawtelle is the founder and CEO of AK Lean Virtual Assistance, where she helps established small businesses and tribal entities build calmer, more efficient operations through documentation, knowledge management, and process improvement.
With a background in Alaska state government and deep expertise in Lean Six Sigma, Megan is known for quickly getting to the heart of what’s slowing teams down - unclear ownership, undocumented processes, and systems that don’t match how people actually work. She brings a practical, tool-agnostic approach that blends facilitation, process mapping, and hands-on implementation so teams can reduce repeat questions, speed up onboarding, and create a reliable “single source of truth”.
Megan is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and a certified Kaizen facilitator. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship and an associates degree in Business Administration and Management.
During her tenure with the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Megan developed, facilitated, and implemented five Kaizen events focused on complex, cross-functional processes. The work resulted in streamlined workflows, stronger internal communication, and clearer visibility into opportunities for time and cost savings. She also co-developed DOT&PF’s Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt training program and served as one of the three Black Belts who taught and certified participants - training 67 Yellow Belts in the pilot year.
As part of a core project management team, Megan helped build a new DOT&PF division based on a shared services model and led the project management for the administrative function, including multi-day planning sessions, weekly meetings with remote stakeholders, and executive-level assessments of administrative needs. She also assessed, managed, and implemented an electronic document system for an engineering division, coordinating vendor evaluation, implementation, and change management through progress updates and training.
Today, Megan partners with leadership teams who want operations that are easier to run and easier to scale - without adding unnecessary complexity. Her work is best suited for organizations with 5+ team members that need clearer documentation, better knowledge availability across roles, and governance that keeps systems current over time.
